Short Stories
CHAIN N' BONE
A life in 1,000 words. Whose life? The carnival worker known as John Henry - the strongest man in the world - who at the turn of the 20th century learned the limits of his own strength because it came in the form of a black body. Through short, this story has a controversial history, including once being accepted for publication only to be unaccepted soon after when a charged racial event gave the publisher second thoughts.

Anyone looking for the rawer version of the story can read it for free here (warning: includes explicit and racially charged language).

TRUE HEROES
Find my story "Eli Rides the Sky" in this one-of-a-kind treasury, which brings together the talents of nearly two dozen bestselling middle-grade authors including Shannon Hale, Brandon Mull, Ally Condie and Jennifer A. Nielsen, to create modern-day fairy tales based on the lives and dreams of children who all have two things in common: They have very big hopes and dreams and they are all cancer patients. Each short story is prefaced by a brief bio of the child and is accompanied by photographs of the child, fully costumed and digitally inserted into a background - a baker, a dancer, a superhero, a dragon fighter, a sports star, a princess and more - that makes them the hero of their own modern day fairy tale story written by one of their favorite authors.

THE GRUFF VARIATIONS
The stories and poetry in this anthology were all inspired by the legend of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, a favorite story from my childhood. But you won't just find goats and trolls in here. You'll also find xenoarchaeologists hunting a legendary burial ground, a harried troll who wants nothing more than peace and quiet, star-traveling cities in search of resources, a cloaked warrior of prophecy, an honest politician, princesses on vacation, interstellar probes, superheroes (and villains), cursed princes, necromancers, fairies, bikers, aliens, violinists... the list goes on.
My contribution, "The Deposition of Harald Throckmorton, Esquire, the Troll Beneath the Bridge," is a transcript accounting the legal fallout that concluded the famous story.
